The team that is solving the water crisis

By Rick Meyer

Candidate for Director; Soquel Creek Water District

This information is provided by the candidate
Every year we have been pumping more water from our aquifer than is replenished by rainfall. This must stop. The first step to restoring our community's natural resource to sustainable levels is to understand how precious, limited and at-risk it is.

WaterPour"Water is more precious than oil and far more important for life. By the time we learn that something is wrong deep underground, it is generally far too late to fix it. The Soquel Water District needs leaders like Bruce & Rick with regard for the long-term sustainability of your water supply and maintenance of its quality."

-- Dr. Robert Curry, Watershed Institute

Dr. Bruce Jaffe and Rick Meyer Rick1stSignare two of five board members already working to assure sustainable water for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren. They have supported effective conservation programs that have saved 25% of per capita water use over the last 10 years and are already on track to save another 20% compared with last year, with the help and support of the community. They are also working on plans for a supplemental water supply to replace the joint regional desalination partnership abandoned by the City of Santa Cruz.

The combination of conservation and a new water source will overcome the water deficit that is causing seawater intrusion and then put us back in balance with this precious natural resource. Meyer and Jaffe commit to bringing viable solutions and their costs to voters. They are endorsed by most of the other board members and a wide range of community leaders, small businesses and District customers. Keep this very effective team in place!
