? 1. How would you determine that the schools are using federal, state and local funds wisely and fairly and how would you report your findings to the community?

Answer from Thomas Gemetti:

It is critical to be transparent to the community in how we are spending our funding to benefit all of our students. We first must determine with the community through the Local Control Accountability Plan ("LCAP") what the priorities are for our students. During this process it important to reach out to the community and develop the LCAP together. Then we must put in a process to report back to the community that the LCAP is being followed. This would be done through reporting back at Board Meetings how we are spending the funding. We will also need to evaluate the programs that we are spending money on to ensure they are working and if they are not working look at alternatives. This evaluation is essential to ensuring we are spending each dollar to ensure each student is reaching their highest potential.

? 2. Are the schools offering instruction appropriate to the diverse educational abilities of all the students?

Answer from Thomas Gemetti:

Our District is very diverse in the languages that are spoken as well as the socioeconomic makeup of the District. We focus on making sure that each student has programs that will help them improve from the level that they are. There is special instruction for English Learners to ensure that they become proficient in English and continue to improve in other areas. For other students there are programs as well as differentiation where students are grouped by their level to again focus on improving their level. Special Education is also critical and we work to make sure all of our children are growing. Overall the instruction is appropriate, but needs to be continuously monitored and evaluated to determine where improvements can be made. Also with the implementation of the Common Core it is important to ensure that all student levels including English Learners and Special Education students are considered when implementing the Common Core.

? 3. Where do you want the District to be five years from now? What steps should the District take to get there?
