Dear Neighbor:

By Lisa M. Kaplan

Candidate for Board Member; Natomas Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Dear Neighbor:

As your Natomas School Board trustee, I have worked tirelessly to ensure our children are afforded numerous opportunities for academic success. Under my leadership, Natomas has

  • Increased district test scores over 68 points in 6 years;
  • Reduced drop out rates 50% in 3 years;
  • Implemented a new International Baccalaureate Program at Inderkum High School;
  • Expanded access to before and after school programs;
  • Lowered class sizes and implemented full day Kindergarten at all schools;
  • Established safe, clean learning environments for all children.
  • Expanded our robotics program, implemented new health and bio-science programs
  • Increased technical education programs (Culinary Institute, Bike Tech, Automotive Technology among others...)

I know what it takes to keep Natomas on the right track. Now I am running for re-election and I hope I can earn your support.

As a product of public schools, with experience as a teaching assistant, parent, education attorney and small business owner, I know that parental involvement and dedicated, quality teachers are essential to the success of our children.

The next 4 years, I am committed to bringing technology and the 21st century into our classrooms, addressing the challenges in our middle and high schools, pushing for increased school readiness programs like First 5 at American Lakes elementary, demanding safe learning environments, keeping class sizes small, and bringing Witter Ranch, Heron, Two Rivers, Natomas Charter School and NP3's Distinguished School status to all Natomas Schools.

JOIN Teachers, Parents, Community Leaders, the Sacramento Police Officers Association, Sacramento Firefighters Association, Sacramento Correctional Peace Officers Association, and Supervisor Phil Serna, City Councilmembers Steve Cohen and Steve Hansen, Sacramento County Board of Education member Brian Rivas, Los Rios Trustee Dustin Johnson, as well as, my current and past colleagues on the Natomas School Board, as well as, numerous parents and community leaders.

The record on which I run is solid, but I know together, we can continue to do better for our children and community. But to do my job, I need you. I want every parent and community member who wants the best for their children, and every teacher educating our children to step forward and make Natomas work harder and smarter to meet the needs of all our kids.

As your school board trustee, I bring experience, leadership, integrity, and accountability to the school district. Our community needs to continue to come together to support excellence in our schools. I've led the way so far. Trust me to continue.

I would be honored to have your vote so together we can provide a quality education for all of our children. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at 916/996-1474.
