As a board member, students will come first.

Every decision we make must be measured by the standard "Does this policy make it easier for students to learn?" If we're not accommodating the needs of every student, then we are failing. If a single child slips through the cracks and doesn't receive a world-class education, then we are failing and must try harder.

A good education system is not just about academics; rather it should be responsible for nurturing the entire child. I envision a system that will not only focus on Academic success, but also develop essential social and emotional competencies for lifelong success.

I support policies to increase classroom instruction time, and that bring more parents into the classroom. Parents should feel welcome and invited, and their input should be welcome as well. Educators know how to educate, but parents know their kids. I will make it easier for educators, students, families, and community members to work together to support the healthy development of all students.

When it comes to education, there is no more important relationship than what goes on between the student and the teacher. I support policies to make sure the most qualified teacher available is assigned to each classroom. Excellent teachers should be rewarded for their work, but at the same time we can no longer assume that the best teacher is the teacher who simply has the most time on the job.

I will work with the education community to develop programs and secure/utilize resources that lead to positive youth development -- success in school and beyond
