Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Robert Garcia

Candidate for
Trustee; Jurupa Unified School District; Trustee Area 1

This information is provided by the candidate

JUSD faces many challenges these days and my life experiences whether professional, personal, or community oriented, provide a solid base for me to take on these challenges as your representative on the school board. Professionally, I lead project teams and manage customer relationships. Through this experience I've learned that working well in a team environment is important for success. Personally, my wife and I have raised three successful children in this district, two in college and one in high school. Partnerships with teachers and staff were the key to success.

Lastly, community involvement in service groups has given me a unique perspective on the needs of our community's children. My service in the school district and community clearly demonstrate my commitment to our students' success.

I promise to represent you in all decisions with the goal of benefiting our students. I will be honored to receive your vote.

My top priorities are:

Communication

I believe the school board members must communicate more with teachers, staff, parents, and the general public. I have been involved in the community for many years involved with school committees and civic groups. And through that involvement I understand the challenges facing our children. I understand the concerns of parents, teachers, and community members and am willing to take an objective look at school board responsibilities, I will never claim to be the smartest guy in the room, my biggest asset is that I'm a listener and I will take input from everyone when making decisions that affect the future of our children.

Education

I believe we must remain focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), however must not lose sight of the Arts and Humanities programs. We must take a balanced approach. As a technology professional, with over 20 years of experience in the Hi-Tech Industry, I have a unique perspective on the challenges facing our district with the implementation of new and emerging technologies and programs for our children that will better prepare them for college and the workplace.

Parent Involvement

I believe parent involvement must start early, in the K-6 schools. I envision a program where parents and teachers can form long lasting relationships to better prepare children for middle and high school. By building a good foundation in the early years, children will adopt better study habits, attendance, and a passion for education that will prepare them for success in anything they chose to do in life. A real benefit is that parents and teachers can have true open communication regarding their child's progress. But it has to start early. There are good programs throughout the district, but we need more consistency across the district.
