Dr. Angelov Farooq is a candidate for Riverside Community College District Trustee Area 5. He was raised in the County of Riverside by a working class single mother. He attended local public schools and began taking classes at Riverside Community College by age 13.

Dr. Farooq is a small business owner and educator at UC Riverside Extension. He also serves as the Founding Director of the UC Riverside Center for Economic Development & Innovation. His project on revitalizing neighborhoods is the subject of a regional PBS documentary called SOS: Sustaining Our Society. Dr. Farooq's work has been profiled by media such as The Huffington Post and the USC Price School of Public Policy. He has been a featured speaker at conferences for a variety of distinguished institutions including the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and the US Department of Housing & Urban Development.

Dr. Farooq was selected by House Democratic Caucus Chair Xavier Becerra, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and top officials of the Obama Administration for their 2014 Asian Pacific American Leaders Roundtable in Washington DC. In 2013, Dr. Farooq was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown on the California Workforce Investment Board. He currently serves as a member of the Green Collar Jobs Council. Dr. Farooq serves as the Chief Advisor for an economic development initiative (Inland SoCal Link) between the City of Los Angeles and the Counties of Riverside/San Bernardino. He is a Member of the USC Price Athenian Society, Rotary International and was elected to membership of the Pacific Council on International Policy. Dr. Farooq was a Founding Board of Director for the US Green Building Council-Inland Empire Chapter. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for March Air Museum.

Dr. Farooq received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of California at Berkeley, his Master's Degree from the University of Southern California and Doctorate of Policy, Planning and Development at USC. Dr. Farooq's favorite hobby is to travel and he has visited 22 countries that span 5 continents.
