I am running for City Council because I am concerned about Lincoln's future. We are at a crossroads similar to adolescence. We can grow up to be a leader in the region, or a place in which nobody wants to live or invest.

Each of my top priorities depends on the others:

  • Public Safety - We must continue to fund our Police and Fire Departments to the highest level possible given available funding.
  • Financial stability and economic growth - We need to stop inter-fund borrowing, and make Lincoln a place in which developers and businesses want to invest, resulting in growth and increased revenue.
  • Strategic planning and cooperation - We must chart our course, and then follow it. We must set aside our egos and feelings, and make fact-based decisions.

My record on the Planning Commission and my career are evidence of my analytical approach to problem solving. This is badly needed in the City Council, to see the big picture and long-term impact of decisions.

I believe in the minimum government necessary to protect the community. Whenever possible private citizens should be able to determine their future and control their property. However, in the close proximity typical of a city, each person affects their neighbors. Thus the need for planning and zoning for the benefit of everyone.
