Background and qualifications for serving along with cornerstones for service.
Dr. Lydia Sondhi is a 28 year Cypress resident and CSULB professor, who, with her husband, raised two children in the Cypress School District. She takes seriously the charge of "citizen leader" having served Cypress and the Cypress School District in multiple capacities. She has been a PTA leader, School Site Council member, and served on the original citizen committee to shepherd the reopening of Landell School in the early 90's. More recently, she has been an elected city council member and two time mayor. She currently supports the Cypress student community through Kiwanis' service projects and sits as an active member of the Cypress College Foundation Board.

Having seen schools open, then close, then open again, Dr. Sondhi is cognizant of the need for the School District Governing Board to be flexible in its decision making regarding the disposition of school properties but also pragmatic enough to recognize that renovating and modernizing schools to meet the needs of the Cypress student into the future is expensive and must be approached judiciously. Clear communication and transparency with the Cypress community is paramount in the deliberation and decision process and Dr. Sondhi promises to make these the cornerstones of her tenure on Cypress School District Governing Board.
