Candidate for
Board Member; Huntington Beach Union High School District

After retiring from a 36-year teaching career I was elected to the HBHUSD Board of Trustees in 2010. While I spent my entire career at Westminster High School, I have broad experience in education. I was the Science Department Coordinator, MERITS Math/Science/Technology Magnet teacher/advisor and the HBUHSD math and science specialist for 6 years. I worked as a trainer of science teachers in programs at both UCI and UCLA and was actively involved in DEA Teachers Union Leadership for 36 years. During my career she was recognized as City of Westminster Educator of the year, HBUHSD Teacher of the Year and Orange County Teacher of the year.

From 1990-96 I served on the Westminster (elementary) School Board when the class size reduction program was instituted and where my training and experience in school finance and collective bargaining helped the district weather the fiscal effects of the Orange County Bankruptcy. I was chosen as Westminster Soroptomist Woman of Distinction in Education.

I am a homegrown educator. I lived my entire life in Westminster. I went to local schools for K-12 and earned my BA, MS and teaching credential at Cal State Fullerton. My husband of 39 years, two sons and 15 siblings and cousins are all Westminster High School Alumni. It is my goal to assure that all students in the HBUHSD obtain an education as great as I and my family received.
