This is a partial list of significant accomplishments achieved by the Huntington Beach Union High School District Governing Board in 2014
  • Budget continues to be managed with great fiscal care -- approximate unrestricted reserve of 15%

  • HBUHSD was once again (four of the past five years), nominated as a top workplace in Orange County - the only school district to receive a nomination

  • The LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) was approved by the Orange County Department of Education with no revisions and was marked as exemplary

  • The quality and beauty of our school sites rival any in Orange County

  • Arts programs continue to thrive, with full program offerings at every site, in addition to the Academy for Performing Arts

  • Athletics programs continue to grow and are successful at the local and CIF levels, with multiple CIF State and Southern Sections championships over the past three years

  • HBUHSD received the prestigious AP Honor Roll Award from the College Board

  • College going rate exceeds 75%

  • All schools received the highest WASC accreditation term of six years

  • High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)pass-rate for first-time takers exceeds 93%

  • Graduation rates of 93% exceed County and State averages

  • Advanced Placement test access and pass-rates continue to increase each year

  • Complete upgrade of district technology infrastructure was successful, without the use of general fund dollars

  • Great vision and leadership was reflected in managing and closing out a very successful community approved General Obligation Bond

  • Student and teacher access to wireless technology is found campus-wide and continues to grow

  • Wellness Partnerships are in place with UCLA, OCDE, the County of Orange, and California Youth Services

  • The Board has adopted protocols and baseline testing for all student athletes

  • The Board has fostered very strong and meaningful partnerships with each of the cities it serves -- emergency services, community projects, and community use agreements

  • Our Parent University continues to thrive and provide important outreach and education to the community
