I am a local resident who has lived in this community since 1963. I am married with two children who attended local schools and my wife taught for many years in the Westminster School District. I have served your children as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, learning analyst, university instructor, principal of regular and special education schools, director of special education, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and as superintendent of elementary, high school, and unified school districts. I presently serve the Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, and Westminster communities as an elected Governing Board member of the Huntington Beach Union High School District.

My degrees include a B.A. in Education, M.A. in Education, and Ed.D. in Educational Organization and Management.

Prior to retirement I served as Superintendent of Huntington Beach City School District, a time in which we re-opened closed schools, built a new school to better serve the community, and passed a successful bond measure to fully modernize school sites. I also served as Interim Superintendent of the Huntington Beach Union High School District.

I am the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions for professional and community service, and served on the Huntington Beach Centennial Committee and the Infrastructure Advisory Committee, as well as the School District's Bond Oversight Committee and on the board of directors of several local organizations.

I served as President of the local American Heart Association and Vice President of the Promoting Resources in Drug Education Foundation which sponsors "Red Ribbon Week" and "Every 15 Minutes." I was a founding member of the Mayor's Task Force on Children's Needs, served on the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee, was a United Way Schools Division Chairman, served as President of the Huntington Beach Educational Foundation, and as President of the Association for Retarded Citizens. I have been honored by PTA, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was presented with the Southern Counties Women in Educational Management Hall of Fame Award.

I am proud that during my time on the school board we never reduced students' school year or school day, academic or curricular offerings, or laid off teachers to balance our budget.
