Joe Aguirre offers knowledge, solutions and commitment

By Joseph V. Aguirre

Candidate for Council Member; City of Placentia

This information is provided by the candidate
Joe Aguirre has been at the forefront of the issues in Placentia and possesses the knowledge and commitment to address our city's challenges
I am seeking a third and final term on the Placentia City Council so that I may continue serving our communit. I believe I can continue to make a difference in helping make our City a better place.

Among my accomplishments on City Council:

  • Worked to reduce the general fund deficit by $5 million over the past few years to keep city budgets balanced
  • Worked to obtain $450 million for the rail crossings
  • Worked to obtain $23 million for the Metrolink station to help revitalize downtown and create a vibrant economy
  • Finished Placentia Avenue and Kraemer Boulevard underpasses
  • Repaved nearly half of all residential streets around City and installed 100 ADA curb ramps, all without using general funds
  • Obtained $1.8 million settlement from firms involved in OnTrac program
  • Worked to reduce crime levels throughout our city
  • Independent auditors have reported "clean" City audits two years in a row
  • Six new residential development projects are underway throughout our City
  • Continued to advocate for a transparent, open government
  • Continued to insist that City deliver services as efficiently as possible to keep costs down

Throughout all of Placentia, I have encouraged City staff to continue placing a priority on bringing new retail businesses wherever possible to serve our residents and help generate the tax revenues that pay for public services. We must be business-friendly.

Placentia is largely built out, and attention has been devoted to revitalizing Old Town in conjunction with the coming Metrolink station, a transit feature that is prompting interest in the area from developers. Opportunities inspired by the station have the potential to create new sources of revenue for our City.

Among my ongoing priorities on City Council, I will:

  • Fund programs that fight crime and promote public safety in our community
  • Maintain Placentia's excellent quality of life
  • Continue working to improve fiscal sustainability for the future
  • Prioritize essential City services within the realities of our limited finances
  • Encourage new business development throughout our City
  • Insist on conservative use of the taxpayers' money
  • Advocate open government that respects and listens to citizens
  • Protect peoples' property rights and oppose eminent domain
  • Build Metrolink station and parking structure without using general fund revenues
