Preserving the Character of Santa Monica

Sue is committed to preserving the small town character and social diversity of Santa Monica in the face of extraordinary development pressures. Maintaining the quality of life in all Santa Monica neighborhoods will be her top priority.

Opposing Excessive Hotel Development on Ocean Ave

Sue thinks Ocean Ave is a treasure to preserve, not a "pot of gold" waiting to be exploited. She will say "No!" to massive high-rise luxury hotel and condominium projects on Ocean Ave.

Opposing the Hines Mega-Development

Sue will oppose massive commercial office projects like the Hines project. Sue knows that such projects generate excessive traffic, few transit users, provide few local jobs and little local revenue.

Protecting Renters' Rights

Sue stands firm for ensuring that Santa Monica's renter residents have the most effective rent control and eviction protections possible. Renters need to know they have champions in SM City Hall.

Providing Affordable Housing

Santa Monica must continue providing new affordable housing for our community. However, affordable housing should not be a pretext for approval of oversized commercial developments. She strongly supports placing an affordable housing ballot measure on the November ballot.

Fully Funding Santa Monica Schools

Sue will ensure that our city lives up to the agreements struck with education advocates in our community and will fully support robust funding for our schools and our children's education.

Ensuring a Living Wage for Santa Monica Hotel Workers

Sue is proud that Santa Monica has led the way in ensuring that the workforce that serves our hotel visitors are treated with dignity, have appropriate working conditions, and are paid a living wage. It's only fair. She will stand firm for our hotel workforce.

Enhancing of Santa Monica's Strong Environmental Programs

Sue will champion the city's continued leadership role in creating innovative environmental programs that serve as models to cities throughout our nation. She and husband Michael walk the talk, driving a plug-in hybrid electric Volt and a CNG Honda Civic.

Continuing the Transit Partnership

Between the City and Santa Monica College Sue will work to sustain the innovative "Any Line, Any Time" transit partnership between SMC and the Big Blue Bus that provides SMC students and staff pre-paid access to our local transit system. And, she will work to see the program extended to the Exposition Light Rail line.

Ensuring Transparent Government

Sue believes that voters should not have to file a Public Records Act request to learn what's happening in our city government. Sue will make sure that all government decisions are made in the open.

Ensuring Our Political Process Cannot Be Bought

Sue will not ask for and will not accept campaign contributions from developers or contractors with potential, pending or recently approved projects or contracts.
