Hillary Weiner's Candidate Statement

My volunteer experience has given me a hands-on understanding of the needs of Orinda schools. I have provided strong leadership in the school community and look forward to bringing my experience, my passion, and my love for learning to the Orinda School Board. I'm excited to serve the Orinda community for many years to come.

I am very active in the school community, most recently serving as co-president of the Glorietta Parents' Club. My volunteer experience has given me a hands-on understanding of our district's needs. As a member of the Orinda School Board, my priorities are to:

1. ADVANCE OUR SCHOOLS: Orinda schools have a tradition of excellence. Like many districts in California, however, ours is in a transitional period relating to Common Core, facilities, and state funding. I will involve all stakeholders and will work to implement changes to advance our schools and continue our distinguished school tradition.

2. ENHANCE THE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE: Education starts in the classroom. From technology and class size to providing teachers and students the resources they need, I will work to improve outstanding classroom experiences.

3. STRENGTHEN THE COMMUNITY AND DISTRICT PARTNERSHIP: Orinda schools benefit from a collaborative education process, supported by parents' clubs, the Educational Foundation of Orinda, our principals, and teachers. I will encourage transparency and collaboration between the district and the community to foster this critical partnership.

I will draw upon my direct volunteer experience in the schools, my prior career as an attorney, and my full-time job as a mother to bring strong, collaborative leadership to the Orinda School Board.
