Candidate Statement

By Mae Cendaņa Torlakson

Candidate for Director; Ambrose Recreation and Park District

This information is provided by the candidate
It has been an honor serving our community as an Ambrose board member over the past 8 years. Working together, we have accomplished so much!

I successfully fought for the opening of our 149-acre waterfront park. I led in creating the Great California Delta Trail and obtaining $4.5 million for shoreline access.

I led in obtaining funds for the improvement of Ambrose Park ($2.1 million) and the re-construction of its swimming pool. We look forward to opening the new wading and lap pool next year!

We have increased after school, teen and other recreational services at both our recreation center and our parks.

I have worked to see that the Ambrose district maintains a healthy and balanced budget.

As President of the Bay Point Garden Club, I oversee the coordination of the annual Bay Point Spring Derby (parade and festival) and its other projects including the Yard of the Month recognition program.

At the University of California Office of the President, I cultivate partnerships with business and industry to help educationally disadvantaged students enroll and excel in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) degrees.

I believe that education and recreation work hand in hand to help students succeed.

Endorsements: Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, Senator Mark DeSaulnier, Assembly Member Susan Bonilla, and Supervisor Federal Glover.

I strive to constantly expand opportunities and to seek new resources to address our community's recreational needs. I would be honored to have your support and vote to continue our work together.
