I have devoted my entire professional career to educating children, serving families, and mentoring my fellow teachers. I am eager to leverage my experience in service of educating all of Contra Costa County's 172,000 students as a Member of the Board of Education. For me, it's all about the kids!

My overall goal is to ensure quality education for all children in Contra Costa County + so that every student is challenged, inspired and prepared for her or his future. To do this, we must focus on the following:

SUPPORTING OUR EDUCATORS

  • Encourage collaboration across all public school teachers to share best practices and learnings
  • Support teachers through responsible resource allocation for training, improved facilities and class size reductions
  • Improve communication with teachers to listen to what teachers know and recommend

PREPARING TOMORROW'S WORKFORCE TODAY
  • Focus on demands of an ever-changing work force, and work to provide education that is relevant and responsive
  • Leverage technology to bring the world of information into the classroom. We cannot let how things were done in the past limit how we do things now + we need to be ready for the future.
  • Strengthen support for CTE/ROP (Career Technical Education/Regional Occupational Program) through developing community and business partnerships, seeking grants and encouraging industry sponsorships

PROVIDING EFFECTIVE OVERSIGHT
  • Support the goals of the Contra Costa County Board of Education by researching current issues, studying policies and proposed bills, communicating with leaders and stakeholders in my area, thoroughly researching the issues
  • Actively engage with county schools by visiting often, listening to concerns, ensuring that the plans set forth in our LCAP are being met, and matching the budget with educational programs
  • Work closely with the Superintendent and the Office of Education to make sure every student in Contra Costa County is receiving the best educational program possible
