Paul Lim Oakland City Council District 4 Candidate Born and raised in Oakland I am true to Oakland. I went to Cleveland Elementary, Edna Brewer Jr. High, graduated from Oakland High school class of 2001 and completed an Associate's degree at Laney College. I have an extensive and diverse resume of life experience. I've been to the bottom and to the top; living in my car and in the hills. I know the culture of Oakland because I not only lived it but participated in its building. I am however not confined to "the box". I've always said out of the box ideas come from out of the box. I was able to free myself from the hardships and burdens that plague so many in Oakland. I went away to Las Vegas and breathed in the experience of a different metropolitan. I graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a Bachelor's in Social Science and a Master's in Crisis and Emergency Management. I recently returned to Oakland ready to give back to the city. I want to break the chains that have been holding Oakland down with smart, sensible, efficient, and convenient policy that the new norm can relate to. I've watched Oakland spin it's wheels with the old style politicking for too long. A new fresh style is required to jump start the life of the city. I am untainted by the politics of the old and able to easily relate with everybody in Oakland. I'm your friendly neighbor who says hi to you in the morning. I'm one of the folks. The top three priorities for Oakland is to keep the A's, keep the Warriors, and keep crime low. How do we do those? First we need to make people feel good about themselves and their city. Keeping the A's and warriors provides strong common ground to reduce conflict. We are all one city, all in this together. We need to stop trying to be somebody else. I want to support businesses large and small so that people will come to Oakland, not because they have to, but because they want to. I want to bring policy that is transparent, simple, and internally beneficial. Like in ancient Rome bread and circus is the key. Feed the people. Provide jobs, investments, and support with strong policy. Provide a culture of pride for the city. People want to be on our team not on our team because they have to be. Cut frivolously wasteful spending so we can support our programs. How much more could be done with the money saved from cutting out the waste? Oakland born and bred.
