Bringing Principles Back Into Politics

If elected, my service as the Mayor will be anchored in the following 4 Core Values: 1) Integrity, 2) Transparency, 3) Fairness, and 4) Inclusiveness.

1) Integrity. I have begun by refusing to accept any donations. This first step is critical to prevent conflict of interest or undue external influence in my role as the Mayor. If elected, I would be keen to detect and expose any action within City Hall that may be (or perceived to be) unethical or preferential in any way. I am certain that within weeks of my arrival, integrity will permeate throughout City Hall.

2) Transparency. As stated on my platform, I will institute a program whereby 5 members of the public who have registered in advance are selected at random to accompany me each week. These individuals will have access to all of my affairs (except those that may cause security or privacy issues). These individuals would be able to serve as the eyes and ears of fellow Oaklanders, gain an appreciation on what it takes to run the City, and provide a fresh perspective on the issues that are handled each week. To summarize, they will ensure my strict adherence to the stated Core Values.
 3) Fairness. On numerous occasions, I have stated that under-represented members of our community must not be forced to make sacrifices for the sake of the well-to-do individuals, particularly in case of gentrification. Beyond the low-income community, I will also look after the homeless, who have been forgotten by our political system for far too long. In fact, I have a specific program to address their needs.

4) Inclusiveness. My vision for Oakland is not just do great things; but do great things together. And do it in a manner that brings us closer together and builds a community with a strong fabric to serve as a model for the entire country. As such, I will spearhead a 1-day-a-year volunteer program to have citizens of Oakland assist with city beautification projects. I believe the friendships and camaraderie that will emerge from those events will far outweigh the amazing work that gets accomplished in the process.
