? 1. As a member of the city council, what would you do, if anything, about improving city services for the homeless?? Give two examples of services that you feel need to be improved.

Answer from Kenneth "Ken" Pon, CPA:

Food and shelter are the most pressing needs of our homeless. I support the efforts of the Davis Street Family Resource Center to provide food and clothing; Building Futures with Women and Children, and the development of the Cornerstone Apartments to provide temporary emergency shelter and affordable rental housing for our lower income, working households and families.

Answer from David L. Anderson, Sr.:

Outreach. First, I would find a way to reach the homeless population and educate them about the various services that are already in place. I would broaden the existing infrastructure to include homeless teens and victims of drug and alcohol abuse. I would look for grant funding since tax dollars are not enough to sufficiently provide the services for our homeless. Lastly, I would work with my fellow council members to find a way to provide affordable housing opportunities.

? 2. What is your long-term plan to assure that your jurisdiction has enough money to meet operating needs and service demands?

Answer from Kenneth "Ken" Pon, CPA:

My long-term plan to assure the City of San Leandro has sufficient funding to meet its operating needs and service demands is to promote greater innovative economic development of our Downtown, Bayfair Mall, and Westgate Shopping Centers and to advocate for transit-oriented development and pedestrian-friendly sidewalk businesses for our high-tech millennials now looking at San Leandro's fiber-optic connected locations to re-locate their businesses.

Answer from David L. Anderson, Sr.:

Measure HH gives us 30 years of guaranteed funding. I would ensure that we are effectively managing our budget and monitor the expenditures from the HH funding. I would also seek economic development opportunities and figure out how to create new jobs, which will increase our tax base.
