Candidates Answer Questions on the Issues
Mayor; City of Newark

The questions were prepared by the League of Women Voters of Fremont, Newark, and Union City and asked of all candidates for this office.     See below for questions on Development in Area 4, Fireworks

Click on a name for candidate information.   See also more information about this contest.

? 1. Do you support development in Newark Area 4? Why or why not?

Answer from Ray J. Rodriguez:

I support environmentally friendly development in Area 3 and Parks and Recreation in Area 4. One possible addition for our city would be a inclusive and community-friendly 9 Hole Golf course with a buy in from our Eco family.

? 2. Should the City of Newark ban the sale of "safe and sane" fireworks?

Answer from Ray J. Rodriguez:

No, because I support non-profits and all the wonderful things they do for our community, due in large to the income brought in through these sales.

Answer from Alan L. "Al" Nagy:

At this time I see no reason to ban "safe and sane" fireworks. The tradition of families participating in fireworks displays in front of their homes has been an American tradition for almost 240 years! To me, this is an annual celebration of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness that all Americans enjoy. I believe the vast majority of Newark residents also enjoy this tradition and would not like to see it eliminated.
