Position Papers
Increasing Local Control: Marshall's Plan
Principals, teachers, and other school site personnel know their students best. They--and not the bureaucrats in Sacramento--should be empowered to make the day-to-day decisions that impact student learning.
Bringing major change: The Role of the Superintendent of Public Instruction
California schools rank 45th in reading and math. It's clear that our schools need major changes. The Superintendent must be an advocate for students, parents and teachers.
Supporting teachers, principals, parents: Less Bureaucracy
Great schools have two essential ingredients: a strong principal and effective teachers. I'll bring my experience creating new Charter schools and turning around failing schools to Sacramento, cut central bureaucracy and ensure we focus on sharing best practices. We can do better supporting local schools and local educators.
