Why I am Running for office

I'm running, very simply, to promote Democratic values and to provide unwavering support in the California Legislature for PEOPLE and FAMILIES instead of more profits for business.

Even to casual observers, it's clear that the Republican agenda misses the mark in its never-wavering focus on business and bigger profits. Their short-sighted objectives simply cannot avoid destroying the successful social structures by which we have lived comfortably and successfully for decades.

They want to slash Social Security...turn Medicare into a voucher program...privatize everything from the military to the post office...and eliminate the regulations that have assured Americans of healthy foods, safe workplaces, clean air, and a stable financial system.

They support drilling for oil any time, anyplace, and that includes fracking at the (proven!) peril of causing earthquakes and poisoning the drinking water.

They oppose labels to even identify if Genetic Modification was used in food production.

In states all over America they insist that male dominated legislatures have control over reproductive decisions and women's medical care.

They gang up to reject needed infrastructure repairs simply to deprive a Democratic administration from getting "credit" for creating needed jobs. Legislation that would improve living conditions and revitalize the economy are given their unanimous "NO" at every opportunity.

They scheme to restrict and prevent Democratic populations from voting...most recently locking the doors of bathrooms adjacent to voting facilities in Florida.

They raise taxes on the middle class while cutting both taxes and tax rates for the wealthy.

They insist that every fertilized human embryo be brought to birth but they concurrently refuse to provide basic health care for pregnant mothers...oppose early childhood education programs for preschoolers...continually reject improvements of facilities and materials for schools...and support escalated college tuitions that leave young adults in debt for decades.

They're enthusiastic about going to war in the name of "fighting terrorism" or "protecting democracy" but, in fact, they are simply expanding and guaranteeing more profits for the "military industrial complex."

They invent new definitions and straight out lie to protect themselves from accountability as they torture captured enemy combatants.

They risk a financial meltdown of the whole world as they develop schemes to manipulate banking, home mortgages and stock markets to collect their multi-million dollar bonuses.

They stupidly reject all scientific evidence about global climate change in order to prevent their favored corporations from having to change any methods of production or disposal.

They would rather see the USA be the world's largest incarcerator (which we are) than spend any money to alleviate poverty and the conditions that predispose the disadvantaged toward crime.

They're unconcerned about bleeding the public mercilessly as they support the price gouging of big pharma.

They're anxious to subsidize tobacco growers even as the industry continues their campaigns to addict children.

Republicans have become a "front" for the firearms industry, ever promoting increases in the number of guns, the caliber, and the magazine capacities that Americans should have in their personal arsenals. The truth is that Americans don't need arsenals any more than they need backyard bomb shelters.

Why they oppose immigration reform, which would provide mega-benefits to multiple levels of our economy as well as a great boom to the spiritual wealth and well-being of this country, is impossible to fathom.

And why they continually vote against benefits for returning war veterans, especially the ones who were injured, is another mystery. As is their opposition to Medicare for all...what planet are these legislators from?

The list goes on...with new pro-business and anti-people schemes being hatched and added every week.

The bottom line is simply that I seek public office to protect the high-quality of life that Californian's have developed over many decades. Yes, I will be introducing proactive measures to safeguard the components of this lifestyle...but I will also be there to put forth, whenever needed, a voice of opposition to the legislative objectives of the Republican Party in general, and in particular, the Republican Assemblywoman, whom I believe, to put it as gently as possible, does not adequately represent the need and the vision of the residents of the 67th Assembly District.
