Member of the State Assembly; District 35

Native Californian and resident of San Luis Obispo County for over 25 years, Heidi Harmon is a candidate for San Luis Obispo's 35th Assembly District seat.Harmon's grassroots campaign addresses the critical concerns of the Central Coast; vital economic development, dynamic education policy, affordable health care, and finding realistic and inclusive solutions to California's water crisis. A Democrat concerned about the growing climate crisis, Harmon is convinced that our community is ready to step up to the challenge of climate change and to the opportunity of a clean energy future. Heidi has worked in early childhood education with a special interest in creative approaches to learning. She has a long-standing interest in the protection of the environment, social justice, and sustainability. This interest led her in turn to become active in public education regarding climate change. In particular, she is chair of the Climate Change Task Force of the Santa Lucia Chapter of the Sierra Club, Program Director of the SLO Chapter of 350.org, serves as Outreach Ambassador for the San Luis Obispo Chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby, in addition to participating in this year's class of 2014 Leadership SLO program. Heidi earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and minor in History, from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Before transferring to Cal Poly, she attended Cuesta College, with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. Heidi lives in San Luis Obispo with her partner Larry and is a proud mother of her adult children + son Jack, daughter Zoie, and Camille who joined her family in 2013.
