REFORMER FOR CALIFORNIA

Anna Bryson Calls for Reform, Common Sense & Constitutional Liberty

As a reformer, I took on the status quo when Capistrano Unified School District was dysfunctional and fiscally unsound -- and got results.

As a hawk when it comes to wasteful spending, I have assertively defended the taxpayers'interests.

As someone who strives to watch out for our constitutional rights and liberties, I want to be your ambassador of freedom for preserving and advancing liberty.

As someone who is practical, I have always advocated for reforms that will work and that are in accord with the laws of economics.

When defending local control, I do so not as a knee-jerk reaction, but because the discipline of political science tells us that healthy competition between governmental units at the same level (for example, towns competing with towns) will yield efficiencies, responsiveness to voters, and policy innovation.

When looking at policy proposals and existing programs, I want to put in place programs and policies that promote economic growth and to eliminate taxes and regulatory burdens that hobble growth. A freer market will bring Californians more opportunities. A positive, healthy culture will provide an atmosphere in which families and individuals can thrive.

After decades of owning and serving in management positions in business in California, particularly in the hotel-and-restaurant, advertising, technology, automotive, and public-relations fields, I am painfully aware of the deleterious government red tape that crushes business and professionals.

I have worked with operating budgets in the hundreds of millions of dollars in public education and investments in the billions of dollars in Orange County government. After cutting $150 million from our school district, we nonetheless became the highest-performing large district in California. We need a fiscally prudent budget in our state.

I am familiar with civic and political life because of my experience and responsibilities in charities; at the state and local levels of the Republican Party; and as an elected public official.

The needs of schoolchildren, entrepreneurs, professionals, and the hard-working people of California should be met. In a state less hobbled by government, they will have the opportunity to achieve their potential.

My view (and the view of the public) is that the budget priorities of the state should be law enforcement, education, and infrastructure (including transportation).

All children need and deserve effective teachers in their classrooms. The money for education should be a backpack attached to each child, not a stream that flows to special interests.

Businesses and professionals in California face pressures from fees, taxes and many hours a week of burdensome paperwork. California's business climate is one of the least attractive in the nation -- as noted by many business journals. We need to cut red tape, allow the economy to grow and free the energy of entrepreneurs so that businesses can expand and are not crushed by redundant regulation.

All Californians deserve a growing economy in which they can work and prosper. I have personally heard of all too many people from all walks of life leaving California for more economically healthy states, like Texas and Tennessee.

I will push with passion the interests of education excellence for all children, so our citizens can function as knowledgeable and productive individuals and participate fully as citizens in our great Republic.

I will endeavor to kill legislation that chains the great creativity of the inhabitants and businesses of California with too much state regulation and control. Together with Republicans, reasonable Democrats, and a civicly alert public we can re-create California as the best state in the U.S. for imaginative and hard-working people.
