Sonoma County, CA June 3, 2014 Election
Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Kenneth R. "Ken" Churchill

Candidate for
County Supervisor; Sonoma County; Supervisorial District 4

This information is provided by the candidate

Three years ago I founded New Sonoma with a group of financial experts to examine the counties finances. What we have found is Sonoma County is broke and broken due to poor management decisions that included retroactively increasing pensions by 50% back to the date people were hired in 2002.

This has resulted in a billion dollars of unfunded pension liabilities and bond debt that will cost the county $233,000 per day for the next 20 years unless we are able to reform our pension system by maintaining already earned benefits and simply changing benefit formulas going forward for existing employees.

The increased pension costs have resulted in service insolvency and we now have roads that are the third worst in a state with the second worst roads in the country.

Our roads are vital to our economic well being, safety, property values and quality of life.

My two main priorities are to reform our unaffordable pension system protect benefits already earned and use the savings to restore lost funding for our roads.
