Educating Our Youth

By Vernon "Vern" Gebhardt

Candidate for Member; San Joaquin County Board of Education; Trustee Area 4

This information is provided by the candidate
Promoting education that develops Intelligence, energy, self-direction and integrity
After graduating from the University of the Pacific, I enjoyed thirty-seven years in education as a teacher, coach, and athletic director. After retiring I ran and was elected to the Manteca Unified Board of Education. Serving on the Board gave me a chance to see the importance of how the Board, administrators, teachers, classified employees, and parents can all work together to keep a District financially sound while maintaining the integrity of educating our youth. This was quite an accomplishment considering the cuts to education during the poor economy.

Lately I have been working as a one year consultant for the County Office of Education. Although the position will end May 31, the experience has inspired me to run for the County Board of Education where I will be able to continue my involvement in helping today's youth. As a member of the County Board I will be in a position to see that our local districts receive as much assistance as possible from the County Office of Education, and expand programs that will provide a pathway for trade schools, community colleges and Universities. We must provide a safe education that develops intelligence, energy, self-direction and integrity in our youth. Please cast your vote for Vern Gebhardt San Joaquin County School Board Trustee Area 4.
