This information is provided by the candidate

Kimberly Toney Williams brings two decades of legal experience to her candidacy for Superior Court Judge. A native San Franciscan, Kimberly graduated from Mercy High School and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. As a UCLA-trained attorney, Kimberly is running for Superior Court Judge to ensure access for all to our legal system. Her parents both proudly served as teachers in the San Francisco Unified School district and instilled in her at an early age the importance of public service.

Kimberly has served the City of San Francisco as an Assistant District Attorney since 1995. She led the implementation of San Francisco's community justice courts to help those who commit low-level crimes find a path towards stability and self-sufficiency.

Prior to her City service, Kimberly held a position in the Enforcement Division of the Securities and Exchange Commission, where she focused on civic protection of the public.

Kimberly believes it is the function of a jurist to make decisions as they pertain to each case, with integrity and fidelity to the law and established legal principles.

Specifically, Kimberly believes in the importance of the courts' commitment to:

Accessibility Kimberly is committed to increasing accessibility to our justice system for all. More and more in recent years, our courts have suffered due to severe cuts in the budget. People of color as well as the socio-economically disadvantaged are the primary victims of this reality.

Restrictions in funding have decimated the scope of support services, entry points into the court, not to mention placing a heavy burden on existing resources. Throughout her two decades as an attorney, she has honed the skills necessary to provide the people of San Francisco with excellent judicial service.

Assistance Kimberly has successfully prosecuted serious cases involving child abuse, elder abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, fraud, and career criminals. She strongly believes the courts not only serve as a critical enforcement mechanism in our justice system, they are here to assist.

Expediency of cases and ensuring individuals are granted due process is not just a courtesy, it's the law. Kimberly has worked diligently as a prosecutor to safeguard each person's right and expectation of assistance from our justice system.

Adaptability Times change--and courts must change with them while upholding the letter of the law. However, Kimberly believes she has a fiduciary duty to our legal system and the people she serves to ensure openness in sentencing as well as exploring mediation and employing remedial efforts prior to trial.

She works with an open mind committed to the consideration of all factors. She will continue to do so as Superior Court Judge.
