Lan Jefferson is running for the San Diego Community College District Board to improve the educational experience and opportunities for students, instructors, district staff and the San Diego community.

As your Board Trustee, Lan will focus on tuition, teachers and training that means something at future jobs, careers, colleges or universities. She will prioritize the budget, develop policy and a strategic plan to keep tuition costs affordable for students, support recruitment of qualified teachers based on student and program needs with in class hands on experience, offer more classes, reduce text book costs, and improve opportunities and support services to better prepare students to get jobs to build the local economy.

Lan is recognized for bringing people together to solve complex problems as a commissioner and community advocate. Her experience also involved working on budget and finance; organizational structure; project and program management; community development; policymaking; and long range planning projects.

Lan serves on the City of San Diego Citizens Equal Opportunity Commission. She promotes the City as an Equal Opportunity Employer; monitors Equal Opportunity and Small Local Business Enterprise Programs of the City, advises the Mayor, City Council, Civil Service Commission and other appropriate agencies of the City government; submits written annual reports for review by the Rules Committee and Council; and assists in the recruitment of competent historically under-represented, women and disabled. Lan has served on the North Park Planning Committee and Redevelopment PAC focusing on public policy and community development. She has however always remained involved in the educational systems of San Diego. As a Graduate Advisor for undergraduate students, she mentored students by helping them with life skills and career decisions in high scholastic and ethical standards as they moved into adulthood; as a Leadership Enhancement Coordinator for high school students, she developed a program with an emphasis on culture, health, personal safety, college preparation, etiquette and financial management; as a tutor for an after school program, she successfully improved the reading scores of 3rd graders; and as a Storyteller for North Park Library, she taught children the importance of reading and utilizing public resources to advance themselves.

Lan and her husband Lawrence, happily reside in North Park. She believes every student, instructor, staff member and the San Diego Community should have a good educational experience and opportunities within the San Diego Community College District.
