Roger lives in Corralitos, and has been married to his wife Linda for 39 years. They have 3 children and 2 grandchildren.

Roger is a Santa Cruz native, who spent 4 years in the Navy, and worked his way through college as a furniture mover before joining the Sheriff's Office in 1979. He obtained his BA from UCSC in Politics, his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from SJSU, and is an FBI National Academy Graduate.

As a Deputy, Sergeant, and Lieutenant (for 12 years), Roger worked patrol, undercover, as a detective, a deputy coroner, head of personnel and training, and as main jail commander. He was the bomb squad commander for 15 years, SWAT Commander/ member for 18+ years, in charge of search and rescue for several years, and tactical (crowd control) team commander.

He was in charge of managing special operations for many years, which included major events, critical incidents, and the coordination of emergency planning with police and fire departments.
