Education and Qualifications:
Sheriff Laurie Smith has a legacy of visionary leadership and an extensive record of accomplishments. She is committed to preserving strong community relationships and the trust earned by keeping our residents safe. She is especially focused on keeping children out of gangs, off drugs and in school.

The Sheriff's Office has achieved national prominence for distinguished service and the highest standards of integrity, accountability and transparency.

The Sheriff's Office also provides public safety services for three of the safest cities in California and is currently assisting the City of San Jose in addressing its diminished level of police services.

As an acknowledged law enforcement leader, Sheriff Smith has served as President of the California State Sheriffs' Association and has been appointed by three Governors to the prestigious State of California Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission.

She has a Masters in Management and is a graduate of the State of California Command College, FBI Academy, FBI National Executive Institute, and the American Leadership Forum.
