Mayor; City of San Jose

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Occupation: Vice Mayor/Mother
Age: 39
Education and Qualifications:
I have worked alongside Mayor Chuck Reed as his two-term Vice Mayor reforming our pensions, creating jobs, working to fix our roads and keeping our libraries, parks and community centers open.

My family escaped Vietnam on a fishing boat when I was four. We lived in refugee camps in the Philippines prior to arriving in America. I grew up working in the fields alongside my parents in the Central Valley. This modest beginning instilled in me the values I cherish today. Hard work and a good education provide endless opportunities in our country.

My values define my vision for San Jose: (1) make schools and neighborhoods safer; (2) restore the police burglary unit; (3) reduce gang violence; (4) boost economic development and create high paying jobs; (5) fix potholes and sidewalks; (6) partner with business and foundations to improve education for our youth; and (7) increase hours at libraries, improve senior and youth programs.

I earned my Bachelor's degree from U.C. Santa Cruz and a Master's degree from the University of Chicago. Prior to the city council, I served as President of the Franklin-McKinley School Board and taught at community colleges.
