Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Hulsey has devoted her legal career to the pursuit of justice in our community and has handled virtually every type of criminal case prosecuted in Monterey County. Having represented the People of the State of California before judges and juries in numerous high profile cases involving public corruption, mortgage fraud, gang crimes, vehicular manslaughter, assault, robbery, child molestation and murder during the past fifteen years, Stephanie has a keen understanding of the courtroom process over which a judge presides. The leadership roles Stephanie has assumed on the many boards on which she serves demonstrates her commitment to our community.

As a seasoned leader in the Monterey County District Attorney's Office, Stephanie guides the highly talented prosecutors on the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team, the Juvenile Team, in the Truancy Abatement Program, as well as prosecutors handling prison crimes, lifer hearings, and civil commitment (mental health) cases. She is District Attorney Dean Flippo's appointee on the Monterey County Children's Council, the Child Abuse Prevention Council, the Child Death Review Team, the Community Alliance for Safety and Peace (CASP), and the Monterey County Restorative Justice Commission.

Among Stephanie's special recognitions of her expertise are the "Award of Excellence" from the Monterey County Peace Officers Association for her work as the lead prosecutor on the murder case of People v. Jesse Crow, and the "Partners in Education Excellence Award" from the Association of California School Administrators for her work with the District Attorney's Truancy Abatement Program.

An outstanding leader in the legal community, Stephanie is the current President of the Monterey County Bar Association, a past Chair of the Monterey College of Law Board of Trustees, and a past President of the Monterey County Prosecutors Association. Stephanie's service to the community at large includes serving on the boards of the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center (Vice President), Leadership Monterey Peninsula's Board of Directors (Past President), and Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula. She is an active member of the Rotary Club of Salinas.

Stephanie received her BA (1983) and Master of Music (1985) degrees from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. She returned to California in 1993 to be near her family, graduated first in her class from the Monterey College of Law in 1998, and entered the field of law with the objective of serving her community. She has deep roots in Monterey County, which date back to 1948, and lives on the Monterey Peninsula with her husband of 17 years, Kevin.
