My qualifications for this office

By Robin C. (Cole) Sunbeam, RN

Candidate for Assessor-Clerk Recorder; County of Mendocino

This information is provided by the candidate
Although most of my professional experience has been in nursing, my Master's Degree education trained me in administration, the basic principles of which apply to any institution. The Nursing Process has prepared me to face unexpected contingencies and come to a satisfactory resolution. My good humor, high intelligence, experience managing databases, and consistent compassion make me well suited for this type of administrative position.
The position is an administrative one.

a) I am an excellent administrator. I did a minor in Administration when I took my Masters education. My Master's Thesis was a business plan for a rural, nurse‐run clinic, which was displayed in the UCSF library for its excellence. I know something about administering, and budgeting.

b) As a Registered Nurse and School Nurse, I have been a professional case manager. As such, I have had to use the Nursing Process to assess various situations and figure out how to adapt to the new circumstances. Case managers are flexible and resourceful in meeting the needs of the clients.

c) I have a lot of experience managing money. I have been Treasurer for Move to Amend and the River Oak Charter School Education Foundation, as well as informally managing other people's money for many years.

d) I am a property manager gleaning the bulk of my income from rental units, and have been personally successful in building up a small estate for my family and myself. I know something about buying and selling real estate, and rental management.

e) I have a small poultry farm, and know something about the conditions of farmers and ranchers.

f) I am a successful community organizer who knows how to make change happen. I was the co-founder of Move to Amend + Ukiah, along with Judy Popowski, in which we organized a county-wide coalition to bring Measure F, the anti-corporate personhood rights initiative to garner nearly 75% of the vote.

g) I was also the co-founder of the Mendocino County Public Banking Coalition, which is trying to advance a county public bank as a proactive solution to the county's fiscal health. It is also an innovative solution to the foreclosure debacle, and will protect the County from the future risk of Wall Street Banks too-big-to-fail going belly-up when their derivatives casino goes south. When that happens, they will recapitalize themselves by seizing the assets of depositors including those of Mendocino County.

h) I strive for integrity, and practice compassion at all times. Those of you who know me, already know I am someone you can rely on and trust.

i) I am a bit nerdy and love to manage data in databases. I have advanced computer skills and a high intelligence. I'm not yet too old to learn new skills.

j) The Board of Equalization doesn't give the Assessor course until after the candidate has been elected. I intend to take it as soon as I am elected.

k) Most of all, I am a strong proponent of government by the sovereign People, and clearly understand that a well-informed electorate is the key to good governance. I will always understand my position as a servant of the People, and not the other way around.
