I am a descendent of people from Mexico and people from Scotland.

When I was 13, my folks moved from Southern California to Laytonville. However, the whole family could not move into the house in Laytonville as it needed considerable renovation due to pilferage. I spent the next six months living with my grandmother while the house was being refurbished by my Mother and Father. In the interim, I attended a Christian school in Anderson, California, called Northstate. The curriculum was non-standard and included courses on the Constitution, English Literature, Latin, Economics and the Bible. It was there, that many of the values I hold today were established.

I moved to Steel Lane, South of Laytonville, in June of 1974. That summer was spent cleaning up the refuse that littered the property to make it a safer, nicer place to live. The first winter at Laytonville was harsh as we had not yet established wood heat. With no heat and power lines down everywhere, we froze. I became familiar with flushing toilets with five gallon buckets of water. In September 1974, I was enrolled at Laytonville High School, where I graduated in 1978. I primarily did well in my English and Music classes. In 1979, I purchased a house in the Brooktrails District where I live with my family to this day.

My first regular job was at the A&W Drive-In in Willits. It was a very fast paced and enjoyable as I prepared the cooked foods. I began my formal career, in October 1978, as a machinist at Remco Hydraulics in Willits. My natural ability to pay attention to tiny details served me well. The work load was unstable which led me to look for work with constancy. Between 1986 and 1994, I commuted weekly to Fremont, California where I designed and manufactured tooling that was used by the local electronics assemblers to automate the assembly of printed circuit boards.

In 1994, I married Melanie Combs and started my machine shop business, ROMAX. I have always been self-funded by my own work and have never been publicly funded. Sometimes business is good. Sometimes business is bad.

ROMAX had a long slow period from January 2001 - June 2004. Only by the good graces of my family, friends, and especially my land lady, June Glass, was I able to survive with my business. The outpouring of support was humbling. If friends and family were the gage of wealth, I would be very rich indeed. During this slow time I also was a firearms dealer. I helped hundreds of people with the lawful attainment of firearms and advised them on proper safe gun handling protocols.

In 2000, my bride, Melanie, and I adopted a son, Alexander. We regularly attend the Agape Bible Church, where I serve as a sound technician, sing and play piano.
