STRONG FAMILY AND COMMUNITY VALUES

I was born in Long Beach and raised my family in southeast Los Angeles County. I earned my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Cal State University Dominguez Hills. My grandfather, an immigrant from Chihuahua, Mexico, and my single mother raised me. They taught me the virtues of hard work, personal integrity and honesty.

COMMUNITY-BASED POLICING INNOVATOR

I wrote the statewide standards for community-based policing. As a 29-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, I know community-based policing works. As Carson Station Captain, I created successful diversion programs for At-Risk youth. Our deputies and community leaders worked to stem street gangs, drug trafficking, and juvenile delinquency. Together we dropped crime by 15% over six years.

LOCAL MAYOR AND EDUCATION ADVOCATE

As Lakewood's Mayor, I founded Lakewood's Education Foundation. I believe in fiscal responsibility and the power of education to change lives. I am proud to be endorsed by local mayors, council and school board members.

REFORMING OUR SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

Reforms have already begun at the Sheriff's Department. As Assistant Sheriff, I've implemented strong rules for accountability and transparency. As your Sheriff, I'll expand those reforms and work to restore public trust and to make every neighborhood safer.

I respectfully ask your vote.
