Judicial Experience Matters!

For seventeen years, I have sat on the Los Angeles Superior Court. I have proven myself to be an outstanding judicial officer.

For the vast majority of those seventeen years, I have worked to protect the most vulnerable members of our society, those without a voice, the abused and neglected children. I have worked diligently to give those children a voice in their lives, to keep them safe and to help them to develop into loving productive members of our society. This work is difficult and undervalued but it is important and rewarding.

We can talk a lot about what to do with prison overcrowding etc. but many criminal offenders have a childhood filled with abuse and neglect and a young adulthood riddled with law enforcement contact. I truly believe that it we can give young children the opportunity to grow up in a safe and loving environment and assure that any youthful contacts with the law hold them accountable for their actions while working with them on their education and job readiness that the number of these children who end up in the criminal justice system will decrease. If we can help these children while they are children, I think that we change the dialogue because we greatly reduce the number of prisoners we are trying to house.

Working with abused and neglected children is not high profile. It does not make the front pages of the newspaper until something truly tragic happens to a child. However, this work is some of the most important work our court system handles. This work needs judges who are passionate and dedicated to it. Please help me continue to do this incredibly significant work and to continue to service the children and families of Los Angeles.
