Goals and Priorities to Strengthen Public Safety and Public Trust

By James Hellmold

Candidate for Sheriff; County of Los Angeles

This information is provided by the candidate
Your Sheriff's Department must focus it's attention to the core mission of strengthening public safety, and restoring public trust.
My goals are straight forward and clear: Bring innovative policing strategies to Los Angeles County to make our communities safer. My immediate goals and priorities will include:

  • Development of a master plan for a holistic approach to promote healthy communities, and confront crime and violence

  • Community intervention and involvement in public safety

  • Emergency preparedness, school safety, and threat awareness at public venues such as malls, theatres, and other potential targets

  • Community preparation drills for critical incidents

  • Expand community advisory committees to hear input and concerns

  • Expand Clergy programs to promote outreach and harmony in the community

  • Prevention programs to address crime in our neighborhoods

  • Identify and address quality of life issues such as speeding cars, graffiti, and theft

  • Youth outreach to encourage civic leadership and involvement, and a positive relationship with law enforcement

  • Seek funding for mental health and substance abuse programs, to divert people in need away from jails into facilities and programs that build character and health
