? 1. What specific personal qualities make you especially qualified to be a judge?

Answer from Amy Carter:

I am dedicated, experienced, and ethical. For the past 15 years, I have worked diligently in the courtroom to protect our community. I solve problems with patience, compassion and composure.

Answer from Pamala F. Matsumoto:

I was honored to receive a well-qualified' rating from the Los Angeles County Bar Judicial Elections Evaluations Committee.

A candidate is well-qualified if by possessing 'professional ability, experience, competence, integrity and temperament indicative of superior fitness to perform the judicial function with a high degree of skill and effectiveness.'

I believe that my prior experience as a judicial officer allows me to combine compassion with common sense, and rigorous analysis with respect for litigants.

I am a wife and mother, community volunteer and distance runner, and I believe that I will bring a deep commitment to the process of justice as well as well-rounded experience to serve the public as Superior Court Judge.

? 2. Do you favor alternative sentences for non-violent offenders in view of the current prisoner overcrowding problems, and if so, what options should be available?

Answer from Pamala F. Matsumoto:

After careful consideration, I must respectfully decline to answer this question. I believe it would be inappropriate for me to comment on an issue that might arise before me should I have the honor of being elected to serve as Superior Court Judge.

Responses to questions asked of each candidate are reproduced as submitted to the League.  Candidates' answers are presented as submitted.
