Art is a retired U.S. Coast Guard Captain, an entrepreneur, and a staunch advocate of personal liberty, limited government and fiscal conservatism. Art and Paula have been married 35 years, have six children and six grandchildren. He is solidly pro-family, pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, and a Century Farm Family Member. After a distinguished 29-year active duty career, Art retired to a farm in Mann's Choice, Pennsylvania.

Art graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1977 with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Management. After embarking as a Deck Watch Officer aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw, an icebreaking ship on the Great Lakes, Art graduated from the naval flight-training program at Naval Air Station Pensacola. He went on to serve as a 4000-hour rescue helicopter pilot, flight instructor, test pilot and Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Air Station Houston, Texas. Along the way, Art gained two master's degrees: an MBA at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, and a Master's of Science in Strategic Studies at the U.S. Air War College in Montgomery, AL.

Over the course of his Coast Guard service, Art also carefully prepared for his post-military career. Upon his retirement in 2006 as a Captain, he pursued entrepreneurial business ventures full time. Art now owns four development companies that hold and manage commercial properties around the country.

Art is deeply committed to local and international philanthropic projects. He is a member of the Gideon's International, the National Rifle Association, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and Crossroads Community Church, in Bedford, PA. Art has also served as National President of the 16,500-member Officers' Christian Fellowship.
