Why I'm Running

By Elisa Hoffman

Candidate for Member of Board of Education; Cincinnati City School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Excellent schools are critically important to the success of each of our children, and to the success of our city. I'm a parent, teacher, and advocate who will work to make sure we have great schools in every neighborhood.
Every neighborhood needs an excellent school. As a parent and a Cincinnatian, I understand the importance of a great education for each of our children, and that excellent schools are vital for Cincinnati to be a growing vibrant city that keeps young families in its neighborhoods.

Last year, only 66% of students in the Cincinnati Public Schools graduated on time. We must do better- for my kids, for your kids, and for our city's future. With your vote, I will take my passion for equity as a parent, teacher, and advocate to the school board and work with you to ensure we have great schools in every neighborhood.

Parent: Like many of you, my husband and I want to send our children to our neighborhood school and know they are being challenged to reach their potential. We also know that excellent schools can keep families in the city, making our neighborhoods and our city stronger. As a parent, every decision I make on the board will directly impact children- my children, your children, and all of our city's children- and impact the strength of our neighborhoods.

Teacher: When I was a teacher, I worked alongside my students, their families, and my colleagues to make unprecedented growth with our students. Because of my experience in the classroom, I know that all children can achieve at the highest levels.

Advocate: I've devoted my entire professional career - 17 years - to working toward educational equity, first as a teacher and then at an education nonprofit in recruitment and hiring. With your vote and your voice, we can work together to make sure all our children have access to an outstanding education.
