Create a City Administration and Council that is Respectful, Courteous and Responsive

By Linda Cox

Candidate for Member Council at Large; City of Loveland

This information is provided by the candidate
To be effective and functional, City Council must be open-minded, tolerant of diverse views, and operate within a culture of respect to residents, businesses, organizations and each other.
As a long-time Loveland area resident, I understand the unique "culture" of Loveland. Volunteerism and public engagement have always been an important part of our make up. Our City Council and administration need to be respectful of this culture by listening to their constituents, encouraging civic involvement, and treating residents and businesses with the utmost respect.

This respect should also extend to the organizers of special events, like the Amazing Race, that draw people to Loveland, support local businesses and capitalize on what makes Loveland such a great place to live, work and play.

This respect should also carry over to the Council dias. It is important that City Council be willing to consider opposing views, think outside the box, avoid "group think", and vote on issues based on their merits and what is best for the city.

Council must also understand its mandated role as policy makers for the city. Council's role is to listen respectully to the citizens, form policies and direct that they be implemented.
