? 1. What services do you believe should be considered basic and essential for the Village?

Answer from Peg Conway:

Our public safety department is essential for the Village. Dispatched directly from our Village Hall, officers respond quickly, investigate crimes rigorously, and regularly close cases. The combined police/fire department is uniquely efficient and includes cross-trained maintenance employees as firefighters. The service department provides the basic services of clearing and maintaining roads and right of ways, as well as collecting leaves and brush from residents, essential in a village with so many trees.

? 2. How would you balance the Village Budget?

Answer from Peg Conway:

The Village budget has been balanced through the the diligent efforts of staff and Council to reduce expenses and passage by residents of a five-year, 10-mill police levy in 2012.

? 3. Citizen engagement is important to the health of local government. In what ways do you support citizen engagement?

Answer from Peg Conway:

After my prior term on Council, the idea to facilitate others to become involved inspired the Amberley Women's Forum, which I co-founded in 2012. Such opportunities to meet and talk with neighbors encourage engagement. I am active on social media and as a Council member would regularly utilize these communication tools to engage with residents. I would support the creation of programs to educate residents about how local government works. I believe committee meetings should be announced well in advance and that executive session should be used infrequently.
