Why I am running for the MWSD

By J. Dwight Wilson

Candidate for Board Member; Montara Water and Sanitary District

This information is provided by the candidate
We need a change in approach to management in which service efficiency can be enhanced. Cooperation with other governmental agencies is a must. We need to have a board which is open and not prone to litigation which has cost the district over $1,000,000
The district has grown increasingly insular and confrontational with other agencies and is unable to build constructive relationships. MWSD has instead taken the route of engaging in litigation. The users pay the bill; in the past five years MWSD has incurred over a million dollars in legal costs, or about $600 per customer which averages $10 a month.

This confrontational and litigatious approach has other costs. Opportunities for sharing costs with other districts and lowering everyone's water bill are impossible to pursue given the present board attitudes.

Public safety has been put at risk as well. Water districts typically have interties with adjoining districts to help one another in emergencies such as earthquake and fire. The present board has refused to allocate funds for the construction of such interties.

I want to bring a new attitude that promotes cooperation and open energy to the board. I bring the experience of managing or governing multiple entities. This experience will help the district manage the valuable water and sewer resources of our community.
