Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Ann Schneider

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Millbrae

This information is provided by the candidate

Ann Schneider for Millbrae City Council

Millbrae is my home. I graduated from Meadows Elementary, Taylor Middle, Capuchino High School, and later UCLA. I returned home seven years ago to care for my parents, Richard & Jacqueline. I've completed remodeling our home and now have time to give to Millbrae.

I support our seniors' ability to stay in their homes, ensuring we live in a healthy community, caring for the environment and growing our economic base while supporting our existing businesses.

My life work supports these values: mentoring Mills' Green Youth Alliance students; counseling students on career opportunities; six weeks working on the San Bruno Gas Explosion as a Red Cross Disaster Volunteer; five years in economic development creating jobs, new businesses and expanding existing businesses, taught at University of California Santa Cruz/San Jose State University; managed cost effective recycling programs at Hewlett Packard and City of San Jose; led Sierra Club recycling projects, served on the countywide curbside recycling Task Force and led our effort to incorporate recycling into California's Climate Action Plans.

As your Councilmember I will: support public safety services; ensuring firefighter/police are fully staffed and funded; implement traffic calming for safe streets; expand programs for our seniors; retain and grow new businesses and create jobs.

I have the experience and qualifications to bring a fresh approach to Millbrae. I would be honored to have your vote.

My Top Priorities if Elected

Safety -Support our Police and Fire Fighters - Implementing traffic calming measures to slow drivers down so residents feel safe walking; expanding education on actions to take to keep seniors in their homes; working with the Red Cross to ensure all our residents are disaster prepared including actions to reduce fire danger in our canyons, tree and brush covered hills and canyons.

Economic Development - Attract new and diverse businesses while retaining and supporting our existing businesses. Bring in 21st century businesses including green and high tech to Millbrae.

Community - Implement programs that can help bring neighborhoods together like NextDoor.com, engage more people to serve on Millbrae's Commission's including slots for students and young adults, hosting forums to bring our diverse community together to talk about making Millbrae a better place to live.

Protect Our Environment - Develop strong programs to slow down climate change, prepare the City for climate change (called Climate Adaptation), supporting food scrap collection & composting, and help our businesses implement commercial recycling as required by state law.
