Bayside Manor Gate Project

By Douglas Henning "賈小德" Radtke

Candidate for Council Member; City of Millbrae

My proposal to increase public safety, property value, and reduce congestion via a Bayside Manor Gate
I have galvanized the Bayside Manor community and found that most residents are in support of my idea for placing a gate at the former entrance to Bayside Manor near BART.

Two years ago, the community of Bayside Manor had a fire and the fire truck that drove through under the overpass got stuck. No cars could enter or leave the community for 3 hours. This is a serious legal contingency as well as public safety issue that the city has not addressed properly.

The gate will have the following benefit:
- It will prevent access by BART patrons to parking in the Bayside Manor Community
- It will allow fire trucks and first responders easy access to Bayside Manor in case of emergency or life-threatening events
- Bayside Manor will become a "gated community", thus increasing property values which will benefit the home owners there as well as increase property tax collections for Millbrae
- The gate itself will be a revenue source for the city. The residents of Bayside Manor will always have their primary street for in and out driving like today. The gate however allows an additional option to get home, and the city can charge a modest fee to get access to the gate via clicker or keycard

The gate would cost a meager $30,000 according to contractors.

The city recently approved on 10/8 $11,000 of video cameras to monitor the skateboarding park.

If they can buy video cameras, they certainly can afford a win/win public works project to improve the lives of a community that the city has figuratively "forgotten and left in the dust".
