I believe that it is the job of a Sequoia Union High School trustee to provide leadership based on a sound understanding of the issues, collaborative decision making that includes all stakeholders, a passionate commitment to preparing each and every student for a successful future, and careful stewardship of tax dollars.

As a SUHSD trustee I will:

Put students first

I believe every student matters and deserves effective, forward-thinking leadership from school board trustees who really care about preparing each one of them for success after graduation.

Make communication a priority

Through my years of working with community groups, I have developed a strong commitment to listening to all parties and finding ways to hear all voices. I believe school board trustees have a duty to keep educators and the community fully informed of their decisions and, at the same time, keep the lines of communication open so they hear what their constituents want from the SUHSD.

Take action based on community input

I have been privileged to help many education groups mobilize to make a difference and look forward to working with our community to keep SUHSD one of the best districts in the state. With ground-shifting changes in education coming our way, it will be more important than ever that we gather solutions from all stakeholders and focus their concerns into action that gets results.

Urge fiscal responsibility

Our district is facing major challenges from the implementation of Common Core Standards in our schools plus a large jump in enrollment with no corresponding increase in funding. I believe a well thought out strategic plan for the district will help us build budgets that maintain education excellence while ensuring the wise use of tax dollars.

Value diversity

My experience as a parent and school leader in a community with a wide range of students has prepared me to appreciate the richness and challenges that come with diversity. The SUHSD is similarly complex, with students from eight cities, representing a wide range of demographic groups and academic achievement levels, attending five very different high schools.
