This information is provided by the candidate

Michael has received endorsements from Jackie Speier, Jerry Hill, Kevin Mullin, Dave Pine; from the Sierra Club (Loma Prieta), the San Mateo Association of Realtors, labor, business and school groups, and numerous civic and neighborhood leaders and residents. These people are backing Michael because, in the last four years, he and the City Council have got a lot done. They have:

  • Strengthened our city finances while saving Easton Library, increasing resources to police and fire, and added to our Budget reserves.
  • Blocked elevated High Speed Rail tracks running through Burlingame.
  • Fixed Burlingame Avenue, a decade overdue, while maintaining 110 of the original 119 parking spots AND leveraging private contributions to pay for it.
  • Became the first Council to cap long term health benefits for retirees and to begin to pay down a deficit accumulated over 30 years.

Michael's priorities for the next four years are the right ones for Burlingame. He wants to:
  • Build a Downtown Parking Structure + a well-designed downtown parking garage will increase available parking spots for shoppers and merchants.
  • Create a Town Square + Michael supports the community-created Downtown Plan, which envisions a public square surrounded by vibrant retail, mixed use, and pedestrian-friendly streets.
  • Maintain Budget Discipline + Michael wants to ensure the City stays on its prudent course to control costs while maintaining good services.
  • Increase Recreation + Michael wants to add more playing fields on the Bayside, expand our bike trails, and improve the Bayside trail for joggers and walkers.
