Like most of you I was happy enough enjoying the good life in Sunnyvale. But when the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) medical clinic decided to expand in 2008 I banded together with my neighbors to resolve the traffic, parking and privacy concerns the new construction would entail. We listened to each others' perspectives to find common ground. We successfully proposed a new left turn onto Old San Francisco Road to reduce traffic cutting through our streets. Now we have a beautiful new clinic that provides vital services to the community.

My experience working with my neighbors, the city and PAMF made me realize just how much it takes to run a great city. I joined the Planning Commission to contribute my share and ensure that Sunnyvale continues to grow in the best interest of its citizens. The issues I've seen in the Commission meetings, the demand for housing, innovative new businesses moving in, a critical need for more day-care centers, reflect the problems of the city at large.

We must continue to balance city budgets while maintaining our good roads, parks, and library. Our downtown needs to be completed so we can shop and enjoy more social events like the Summer Concert Series right here in Sunnyvale. We must support our police in reducing burglaries and keeping our neighborhoods very safe. Families need more youth programs. Our seniors deserve easy access to services. And we must protect our environment for our children and our children's children.

I will seek to build consensus with my colleagues even when our opinions differ. We may have competing interests from different parts of the city but civility and respect should always be how we work together.

We live in an exceptionally beautiful city, Sunnyvale. I ask for your vote to keep the city safe and prosperous; it is a vote for reason and reason to vote.
