A Strong Community Requires Diligent Leadership and Advocacy

By Luke Teyssier

Candidate for Board Member; Tamalpais Community Services District

This information is provided by the candidate
I promise to strengthen the Tam Valley community by:

- Engaging the Community and Giving Tam Valley a Voice
- Making every tax dollar count
- Keeping parks available for whole families
- Maintaining the current high level of services and day-to-day operations performed by the TCSD staff

Tam Valley is an amazing community and an amazing environment in which to live and raise a family. The semi-rural nature of Tam Valley and southern Marin is no accident and didn't happen by chance; it took decades of concerned and active citizens protecting the home that they love.

I care deeply, as you do, about quality of life, traffic, land use, and schools in Tam Valley.

I am running for the Tam Valley Community Services District because I feel that it's important for TCSD to ensure the residents of Tam Valley have a voice in these important issues.

The TCSD could play a crucial role in helping to inform the residents about what's happening at the county and regional levels, and in letting the county and regional levels know what Tam Valley would like them to do.

In addition to maintaining the sewer, refuse, parks and recreation at a high level of service, I promise to:

1) Engage the Community and Give Tam Valley a Voice:

It's important for Tam Valley Residents to have a voice. The final bullet of the TCSD charter states "Giving a voice to our residents as they work with other governmental agencies", and I intend to do exactly that. I will seek out the concerns and opinions of Tam Valley residents, work to have balanced, truthful and civilized discussions and debates for the larger issues, and see to it that the county and regional governments know where we stand. For example, I have spoken with our district supervisor for Marin, Kate Sears, on several occasions, and will continue to do so. A community with a voice and true representation is a strong community.

2) Make every dollar count:

Every dollar that TCSD spends is a dollar out of your pocket. Our community has a diversity of income levels, and many of our neighbors really feel the pain each time property taxes are due. We need to take a close look at discretionary expenditures and make sure we are getting the best value for our money, both in the short term and for a long term view. There is enough money to do what we need, but not a dollar to waste.

3) Keep parks available for whole families:

While a dog is not a child, he or she is a member of the family. Something would truly be missing for any member of our family not to be able to join us on outings to the neighborhood park. Having a common place for families and pets to play and get to know each other makes the community stronger. I promise to work with the Parks and Recreation commission to find ways to address concerns about kids, dogs, and parks while recognizing that each of these are essential to a strong community.

I promise to diligently, faithfully, and fairly execute my responsibilities as a Director of the TCSD board, and I look forward to serving you.
