Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Jessica Jackson

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Mill Valley

This information is provided by the candidate

I am committed to fostering a safe, healthy, and economically vibrant community where all people and all generations feel at home.

I intend to put my time and energy into preserving what is great about Mill Valley while also preparing us well for the future. Specifically, I want to focus on:

Communication Opportunities: The ways we communicate have changed dramatically in just the last five years. Last decade, who knew we'd be on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, and Instagram today? And tomorrow, who knows what platform will be invented next! I am very comfortable with both traditional and new methods of communication and want us to make smart decisions about how we communicate with our citizens. I applaud the city's efforts over the past few years to improve its communication channels and look forward to helping further bring them into the digital age in ways that are accessible and effective.

Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety: We need to make it easier and safer to get around town without using our cars. I will pursue a bike share program like the ones that have been so successful in other cities; ensure that we are investing in sidewalk maintenance and improvement; and continue support of our successful steps, lanes, and paths program.

Emergency Preparedness: We live hand-in-hand with nature and must be prepared to effectively deal with the many natural events that can occur here. We must protect our town against wildfires by continuing our effective fuel break program, and pursue additional flood mitigation concepts.

If we make the right decisions about Mill Valley today, we can ensure it remains a special place tomorrow--and well into the future.
